Vocalist, Billy Joel Tribute UK + solo projects

“I’ve been able to play a few gigs here and there during the various lockdowns, with my last one being on October 18th at The Diamond in Sutton in Ashfield. It’s a really popular venue that usually has people swinging from the rafters, but due to the ban on audiences dancing and singing, it was quite a subdued affair. This is in stark contrast to my last gig before the first lockdown in March. That was in AndWhyNot in Mansfield, which was totally brilliant. Everyone was singing along and shouting out requests. Great fun!

I quite enjoyed the break during the first lockdown, if I’m being totally honest. I’ve been gigging professionally for over 20 years. I’ve missed-out on so many things (holidays, family events, social gatherings etc) and a lot of my friendships and relationships have suffered because of it, so it was nice to stop and take stock. That being said, it’s made me realise that I don’t really know how to do anything else, and that came as a bit of a worry. I’ve applied for various jobs over the last few months, but haven’t had any luck, so I need the scene to come back as soon as possible, so I can reinstate my sense of self-worth.

I’ve got a 4-year-old daughter who is VERY energetic, so she’s definitely kept me going, especially during the first lockdown, before she started school. I know a lot of people whose mental health was suffering due to the isolation etc, but she didn’t give us a chance to wallow - she’s been truly amazing. I’ve also managed to decorate the house and sort the gardens out…and I’ve even baked a couple of cakes! Ha!”
