Spring 2021

In their words

“Wow what a year it's been. We have had many highs and a few lows along the way but we stuck together as a family. So we did all celebrate our birthdays in some form of lockdown which we never expected way back in May when Marge first visited us, including a big birthday (40th), however we always made it as special as we could. The children have learnt many life skills including how to ride bikes on the road safely, cooking and preparing a meal. Our youngest has taught herself how to do a backflip so there was lots of bed bouncing to get there. During the times when we came out of lockdown we opened our kitchen window to the street and shouted ‘the shop is open’ and the other children would then come and we would hand out cookies and sweets. These times were important for all the children as it brought back some sense of normality for them. We spent our summer holiday travelling around the UK visiting various towns and cities that the children had never seen and made many happy memories along the way. We have made the most of being in lockdown creating theme nights at the weekends and taking it in turns to cook meals for each other. We have had everything from Chinese, Greek, American and Indian and the children have loved being involved and learning new skills in the kitchen. Even though the last year has been trying and testing I wouldn't change a thing because me and my family made the most of every option and have had some magical times along the way and grown stronger and closer as a unit.”
